What you'll do

On our Secret Food Tour: Charleston - Brunch and Broad, our experienced guides will take you down one of the "Great Streets" of America. Broad Street is known for its historic architecture, maintained by gallant preservation efforts and enlivened by fascinating stories. These stories illustrate the area's rich history and shared love of the people and buildings of the past and present.

Our tour gives you access to Charleston's oldest and most charming neighborhoods. Come spend your morning strolling, shopping, and eating at the places where locals enjoy their most loved breakfast foods!

  • We'll begin in front of Washington Square, at the Broad Street gate entrance, where you will start your journey learning about George Washington's impact on the city.
  • Then, we will wake our taste buds up with a seasonal delight latte and hear about one of Charleston's most infamous hotels.
  • Next, we will stop at a locally owned shop to find that perfect souvenir to remind you of your time in Charleston!
  • Then, we will arrive at a staple establishment with a 100-year history for a delicious dish named after the city's beloved celebrity, Bill Murray.
  • Now, we will go down Broad Street, hearing the tales of unrequited love, wars, fires, the four corners of law, and of course, food!
  • Next, we will refuel with a fresh baked breakfast favorite at a sophisticated mercato.
  • Then, we return within the neighborhood to walk a cobblestone street on our way to a sought-after brunch establishment in the heart of the city.
  • And, as with all our tours, there's our delicious Secret bite!
  • Lastly, we will end with a picture-perfect reminder of Southern hospitality!

WHY BROAD STREET?

Since Charleston became a city, Broad Street has served as the pulse of the peninsula. The street even had rudimentary streetcars in the late 1800s.

It was initially named "Cooper Street" after the Lord Proprietor Anthony Ashley-Cooper. However, after Charlestonians bragged about their 72-foot-wide street, it was renamed Broad.

In its deep history, the intersection at Meeting and Broad held a drawbridge that allowed townspeople in but kept enemies at bay.

Broad Street was also the location for several drafts of the United States Constitution.

In its present day, art enthusiasts flock to Gallery Row, which includes about 15 galleries on Broad Street, with another two dozen on the surrounding streets!
